St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral

The Cathedral is one of Corks most iconic building located within 5 minutes’ walk from Patrick's Street. It is indeed an historical gem in the center of Cork. Designed by English Architect William Burges and built from limestone and marble from Cork, it truly is a view from the outside or the inside.

The interior is magnificent it includes glass stained windows depicting scenes from the Old and New Testament, marble mosaics from the Pyrenees while the sanctuary ceiling portrays Christ surrounded by angels. The building has over 1260 sculptures to gaze. The main entrance into to the courtyard is on Bishops Street which will provide you with a very impressive view of the cathedral for great photographs to be taken at different angles from the road side.


You will definitely learn some great history on the guided tour and you will be kept entertained throughout, definitely a great time passer. You can also purchase some small religious artefacts there.


Cork is almost surrounded by water and this gives you the chance to enjoy a lot of water activities especially when you travel to Kinsale, which is 25km away from the city centre. You can go fishing with one of the best in the area to take you out fishing however there are also interesting places to visit around the city as well, you can visit the Blarney Castle, St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral and The English Market. All these locations would be providing you with a unique perspective of Cork.

All you need to do is walk past the Union Quay and you are there right behind the College of Commerce. From here you can travel to see other spectacular locations that are located outside cork city center.


When making a booking, you can choose to drop off the vehicle at different locations, this does come at additional cost but we found that it is convenient when travelling between counties. It is recommended that you check before hand as some drop off locations are not open all day but Dublin Airport and Dublin city center are open. We do recommend that you check when you intend to drop off the cars in locations such as the Shannon and Kerry.


The way to get a cheap car hire fare is to make your booking in advance also this gives you the chance to pick your preferred car locations as there can be limited vehicles in some locations.
