Electric Cars Ireland
In Ireland the authority in charge of the national roll out of electric cars is the ESB. The aim to by the end of 2011 to:
- Install 2,000 home charge units
- Create 1,500 charge points around Ireland
- Have 30 fast charge points installed in Ireland
*All information is sourced from esb.ie
A map of the planned charge point locations is available on the ESB website.
- Home Charge Points - Owners of electric cars can install home chargers for their cars. Motorists simply plug their car in when they get home. The car may be left plugged in overnight. These home charge points may be purchased after you buy an electric car via your car dealer or by contacting ESB.
- Public Sreet Chargers - A map of all public locations can be found on the esb website. These public charge points are accessed via a secure manner by using your RFID card. Please contact the ESB for more details.
- Fast Charge Points - As the name suggests these charge points can provide a much faster charge than your home or public outlets. You will find the locations of these on the ESB website but in general they are found along primary roads and motorways. A fast charge point can be completed in approximately eighty minutes.
We would love in time to add both hybrid and electric cars to the fleet. Costs and the fact that electric cars are in their embryonic stage. If enough requests come in then of course we will review so its important to join our mailing list and follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
